Why I'm a Blogging Birmingham Real Estate Agent

Real Estate is Local

Real estate is local.  That's the #1 reason that I blog about real estate.  As a Metropolitan Birmingham, AL Realtor® everything I write about relates to what I know about the local real estate market.  With so much information on the Internet, local home buyers and sellers need to know that what they read on the Internet about real estate conditions in other states may not (most likely does not) apply to the Birmingham real estate market.

I don't necessarily have to indicate a specific area in the Metro Birmingham area such as a local city or neighborhood, just know that I'm writing about what I know as a local real estate expert.  A home buyer or seller can spend hours and even days researching information about real estate conditions.  However, oftentimes they can't put it in context as it relates to local conditions, in which case, the time and effort, unfortunately, will have been in vain.

For example, I know that many buyers and sellers rely on Zillow or Trulia (and I'm not about to put either of them down) for market information, but what happens a lot of times is that I'll get a call about a property on one of these sites.  The caller may see a dollar value that they mistake for a list price when it may very well be Zillow or Trulia's interpretation of a property's market value.  Convinced that that figure represents a list price, when in fact, it isn't nor has it been in the recent past.  This sometimes causes a great deal of confusion and as real estate agents, we may end up spending the first 10 to 15 minutes of such calls explaining that the caller has misinterpreted the information.

So when I blog about real estate, I want the public to have the confidence that I am a Realtor® that knows the local Metro Birmingham area market, cares about informing the public and that I take the time to understand the market and explain it to buyers and sellers in a way that they too can understand.

Hi Charita - You're right - AR gives us a great platform to serve the needs of our local readers, and we have the expertise and experience to provide them with truly relevant information they can use. I find that doing market reports regularly keeps me fully up to speed with what's going on.

Hi Dick.  I'm going to be following your lead soon on the market reports as well as BLiz's.  I think you have long ago hit the nail on the head with that one.  I still have the templates that you sent me several years ago.
