Birmingham Real Estate: You've Got Options: Dear AR Newbies: A Letter From a Backdoor Ambassador

Dear AR Newbies: A Letter From a Backdoor Ambassador

Dear AR Newbies:  A Letter From a Backdoor Ambassador (30DC3)

First let me start by saying Welcome to ActiveRain.  If you ask me, ActiveRain has got to be the most valuable real estate resource at our disposal.  Right here, you're in the company of some of the most knowledgeable people in the business.  The expertise runs the gamut here to include, but not limited to:  real estate agents and brokers, mortgage loan officers and brokers, home inspectors, attorneys, title company representatives, appraisers.  You name it.  Every possible field that you are likely to encounter in your real estate career is right here:  congregating in the Rain.

Talk of the townWhat's All of This Fuss About ActiveRain?

This is probably the question that lead you here in the first place.  What's all the fuss about?  I know, I know.  You didn't expect to be so heavily engrossed in reading people's post and comments that you can't drag yourself away from your laptop to..... you know, GET SOME WORK DONE. If you are anything like I was, my mind was going "Oh My God.  This is GREAT!!!!!  You quickly found out that all the fuss was about people just like you were talking about real estate.  People are sharing what they know and the experiences that they've had.  Got a question that's been bugging you?  Just keeping hanging out here.  You'll find the answer.  Or better yet, just ask somebody.  After I got a little comfortable (some may say cocky), I opened my big mouth and wrote a post.

You've Joined So Now What?

You don't have to tell me, I already know that you're asking yourself the same thing:  What do I do nowNow what that I've joined. You're probably asking yourself what you should write about or if you should write anything at all.  I know you're a little anxious especially if you haven't been in the business as long as some of the veterans that hang out here.  But don't be intimidated by that.  There are some people here that can recite real estate law (in their respective states) in their sleep and if you happen to say something that turns out not to be a fact, you're likely to be called on it.  But don't let that scare you because most likely what you'll actually incur is someone's opinion that differs from your own so don't always mistake those opinions as statements of fact.  And finally, whatever you do......

Don't Be Scurred!

ScaredDon't be scurred (a.k.a. scared) to write.  We're only people (just like you).  Trust me, chances are our BARK is MUCH bigger than a newborn baby's BITE.  Hey, after all, we've got a reputation to live up to:-}.  I know you want to write something and perhaps you're afraid that it will sound stupid or silly.  But I wouldn't worry to much about that because even if you feel like being purposely silly, there's an app for that, but around here we call them (apps) GROUPS.  Find a group where you'll fit.  As a matter of fact, your first group should be AR Newbies.  Just like the brokerage where you hang your license, before you signed on with a company, you had to make sure that you were a fit.  Don't focus on what you don't know, just talk about what you do know.

If All Else Fails

If you're still a little apprehensive, call on one of ActiveRain's designated Ambassadors.  You'll recognize them by the AR badge with a star and the big ole word AMBASSADOR under their names.  And if all else, fails you can call on me:  Your Backdoor Ambassador (BTW that's code for:  I don't have a star but I'm still willing to help).    I'll be glad to help if I can.  One thing about me; I can admit when I don't know something, but chances are if I don't have an answer, I can point you in the right direction.

Once again, welcome to ActiveRain.   Don't forget to have fun.

Sincerely,

Charita H. Cadenhead, Your Backdoor AR Ambassador

I like how you call yourself the "Backdoor Ambassador".  You do seem extremely approachable and this is a perfect invitation for someone knew or who hasn't started yet to get moving and give you a call!

It's been so long now I forgot about being apprehensive, of course you know me and I have never been one to shy away from voicing my opinion....great post

Posted by Gerry Michaels, GettysburgGerry Social Meida (Glasswork Media Arts) almost 10 years ago

Thanks Renee.  I thought that since it takes a while to learn the ropes around here, I thought it would be helpful to point out the function of AR Ambassadors so Newbies will know where to seek help.

Gerry, clearly you have never been one to shy away from a dissenting opinion and that's why we love you.

Newbie here...taking note! :)  Most that know me know I'm anything but shy so jumping in wasn't too tough for me.  I just hope all the newbies read this and brush off any 'fears' they may have about blogging.  It's fun...very productive...and you get to meet some pretty cool people!

Emmary did you ever think it would be this much fun as well as informative?  Thanks for commenting

Posted by Charita Cadenhead, Serving Jefferson and Shelby Counties (Alabama) (eXp Realty) almost 10 years ago

I'd been poking around and reading for a few months before I joined so I knew the information was amazing.  But I didn't think I'd run into such fun 'characters' around here!  It's slowly but surely replacing my Facebook addiction.

Posted by Emmary Simpson, Serving Las Cruces, NM (Las Cruces Homes and Land) almost 10 years ago

I love this post...I've been an AR member for a while, but just recently started blogging and commenting on other's posts...and it can be "scurry".  But I am starting to relax and take it all in.  It's actually quite addicting...Thanks!

Charita,

Great information for newbie's.  Love the part about getting addictive, it's so EASY to do here.  Now my kids routinely ask me about my number of blogs, point totals and where I am in the state, city?

All the best, Michelle

Posted by Michelle Francis, Realtor, Buckhead Atlanta Homes for Sale & Lease (Tim Francis Realty LLC) almost 10 years ago

Nice welcoming post for the newcomers Charita--it took me a while to make sense of all the groups and to find the ambassadors--this post can shorten the learning curve and I think everyone appreciates that!

Just found this today. Thanks, really cool post. I didn't know about the groups features, so I'll be looking for that soon.  Hopefully you'll be a 'legitimate' ambassador someday!

Posted by Manuel Monserrate almost 10 years ago

Emmary this is just sooooo much more fun than Facebook.

Barbara I take it that you aren't quite as "scurred" as you were in the beginning.  Every really is harmless (at least I hope they are).

SIDE NOTE to Liz (referring to my Associates list):  Ms. Bad Manners is now in good company with Jeanne Dixon, Jane Peters and Cynthia Larson.

Michelle now you've gone and done it.  You've got your kids hooked too.  As for finding the "back door ambassador" program:  you create it yourself or we and join forces.

Thanks Lisa.  It seems to me that in a sense, one never stops being a Newbie since new stuff is introduced just when you think you have it all figured out.

Manuel you've find the groups are equally as interesting and focused.  BTW, I'm already "legit" as far as I'm concerned, but I "get" cha.

Posted by John Novak, Henderson, Las Vegas and Summerlin Real Estate (Keller Williams Realty The Marketplace) almost 10 years ago

Thanks Sharon. I know that these kinds of post crop up every now but people are joining all of the time so I figured it couldn't hurt.  Besides, a newbie took my rebuttal to his post personally so I needed to make it right and let him and others know it's never really personal.

Thanks Betsy everybody was once new to something and as quiet as it may be kept, we'll be new to something again.  And I would hope that someone would reach out to me.

Terrie I hope that it helps to ease some of the apprehension.

Andi I know right?  Whenever I see a Newbie being pounced on (real or perceived), I like to refer them to that post of mine just to let them know that it's not the end of the world.  AND it's proof of how I've grown and an indicator that they will grow to.

John retrospect is a powerful teacher.

Thanks Judy, when I think about it, it's really kind of cool being a BDA.

Charita, thanks for this post. I'm quite new here (couple of months), and while I'm not as "scurred" anymore, I appreciate your post. I'll be looking for groups, didn't think of that... It's amazing that in this short time (pretty much within first 2 weeks) I stumbled upon people whose blogs and opinions I find interesting, enlightening and educational, real estate related or not...

And it's also amazing how you can connect to people, how others are ready to reach out. In my very first days here I ordered Margaret Rome's book, and guess what, she CALLED ME! SHe was very sweet, we chatted a bit, she immediately told me about logging in to get started on the points (and I kind of missed that part before she pointed that out). I'm AR addict now :)

Philip the funny thing about when people first join AR is that there is so much info that we just didn't know where to start.  Vision:  kid in a toy store.

Thanks Jane.  So many people have helped me and paying it forward almost seems second nature especially when you know someone will need a little help and encouragement.

Carla I don't meet the criteria for the AMBASSADOR badge but I'm just so cool with being a BDAMB from BHAM (as Liz of Liz and Bill has so graciously tagged me).

Terry the one thing about being a member of ActiveRain is that you NEVER stop learning.

Anna welcome to ActiveRain.  AR is like the greatest thing since sliced bread.  I'm still fascinated by all of the things you mention:  "opinions I find interesting, enlightening and educational, real estate related or not..."  I got that call from Margaret Rome too and I really appreciated that she reached out to me like that.

Lori just don''t call yourself BDAMB from BHAM:-} (my new moniker from Liz and Bill).  What's really important is that you continue to pay it forward.

Posted by Charita Cadenhead, Serving Jefferson and Shelby Counties (Alabama) (eXp Realty) almost 10 years ago

Charita, this is such a great idea. There should officially be a group for BDAMB's - a group of us who are more than willing to share and encourage new AR members, who have not been officially knighted by the AR gods for that purpose, with all of its perks....hmmm....

Charita:

You are a very good ambassador.  Newbies should take you up on your invitation.  Happy New Year.

I love  And if all else, fails you can call on me:  Your Backdoor Ambassador (BTW that's code for:  I don't have a star but I'm still willing to help).

But I do see a star and an AMBASSADOR badge under your photo. When did that happen?

Charita, you sound like my Sunday school teacher.  When I first walked into the classrooom I felt all alone.  She put her hand on my shoulder, reassured me all would be well and for some reason, when she said that "I knew ALL would be well".

Charita, I can relate...It was skurry for me too, but now I don't even know why I was skurred!

Charita, I'd have got started earlier if I'd found helpers like you.   I love to write and have been postings regularly, but I need help with getting people to read.  My "audience" is mostly people to whom I mention specific posts, and they don't keep reading later.   What am I missing?

Charita... That's sage advice my fellow Rainer! I so totally agree, "focus on what you do know!" Share it with others and it'll grow in no time here on AR!
